Under Scale Travels, a collaborative program about art and nanotechnology between gnration and International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), Portuguese multidisciplinary artist Ana Guedes presents a new installation. The project n.d’edit._128_33_Blue_Dot_:20.0005mhz explores cultural coordinates and references of a collective imaginary that mirrors the multiple fronts of planetary scale crisis.

Developed with IMiNa, a research group of INL, this work follows the processes of nanofabrication of new accelerometers with aerospace application. Based on monitoring models of terrestrial water bodies, and flood and drought patterns resulting from climate change, the installation proposes a speculative exercise on the future of today’s crises, using data and references from scientific models.

Ana Guedes’ practice combines sound, performance, and installation, interconnecting temporalities and historical and autobiographical narratives. Graduated in sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, the multidisciplinary artist born in Braga and living in the Netherlands holds a Master in Intermediate Arts from the University of Évora and in Artistic Research from the Royal Academy of Art in Hague. She was a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation grantee between 2015 and 2016, and was a selected artist for the EDP New Artists Prize 2017, having been awarded an Honourable Mention for her work. Between 2017 and 2018 she participated in an artistic residency at the Jan Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. In 2018, she was awarded the Piedra de Sal prize by the Cuenca Biennale. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Latvia, and the Netherlands.
