Surma was born and raised in the small village of Vale Do Horto. There, she began her first adventures in music. While still in high school, she started a solo project, the same project we know today, in which she would explore sound environments and boundaries between musical genres.

On stage, she is usually alone and surrounded by a dozen instruments. With this setup and her voice, Surma has toured the world. She played over three hundred concerts spread across fifteen countries, and in stages ranging from NOS Alive, Primavera Sound, and Paredes de Coura to South By Southwest, Eurosonic, and SIM São Paulo.

Always willing to collaborate and take on new challenges, Surma has, in recent years, embraced projects such as Concerts for Babies or the 5ª Punkada (a project for users of the Coimbra Cerebral Palsy Association). She has also developed sound work and soundtracks for Theatre and Cinema (she was nominated for the Sophia Awards with her composition for “SNU”).

Since her debut Antwerpen (2017), she has accumulated awards, projects, collaborated with other musicians, and composed music for film, theatre, and dance. IMPALA (European Association of independent publishers) named her record one of the 20 best of that year. Antwerpen also received top reviews from national media such as Expresso and Público and was almost unanimously considered one of the best Portuguese records of the year.

She debuts Alla, the second record of their career, in gnration. Pedro Melo Alves and João Paulo Esteves da Silva will join her universe as guests. Pedro Melo Alves is a drummer and percussionist, and one of the most promising names in national jazz. João Hasselberg is a bassist who has collaborated with names such as João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Luísa Sobral, Júlio Resende, or Salvador Sobral.
