This project unfolds in several different formats which, although autonomous, complement and enrich each other. A book, published by Sistema Solar/Teatro Praga, a virtual installation – which can be visited at www.abodyaslistening.com – a disc published by Clean Feed and a conference-performance are the outputs that make up this project that Joana Sá has decided to embrace. Each of these parts is a marker on the path that the pianist began to tread, a path that seems to guide her to this moment, to the show that she will present sitting at the piano.
Her work is characterised by transdisciplinarity, experimentation and the search for different artistic (un)formats. Joana Sá explores the relationship between the body and listening, resonance and vibration. Her solo career includes the trilogy through this looking glass (2010/11), Elogio da Desordem (2013) and à escuta: o aberto (2016) – which also served as the subject of her PhD. In addition to her solo work, Sá is also active in various duos, trios and quintets with artists such as Luís J. Martins, Nuno Aroso, Eduardo Raon and Savina Yannatou. She has performed at leading national and international venues and recorded for Deutschland Funk, SWR2 Südwestrundfunk 2 and Antena 2.

music, performance (piano and others) and artistic direction
joana sá
visual design
daniel costa neves
performance co-creation (movement support)
teresa silva
body-listening device (installation)
henrique fernandes
light design
daniel costa neves and tela negra
light operation
black screen
sound design and operation
suse ribeiro
production
less much more, crl
co-production
culturgest, gnration, jazz ao centro
music, performance (piano and others) and artistic direction
joana sá
visual design
daniel costa neves
performance co-creation (movement support)
teresa silva
body-listening device (installation)
henrique fernandes
light design
daniel costa neves and tela negra
light operation
black screen
sound design and operation
suse ribeiro
production
less much more, crl
co-production
culturgest, gnration, jazz ao centro

support portuguese republic – culture / directorate-general for the arts. rtcp – network of portuguese theatres and cinemas

Pianist, improviser and composer Joana Sá brings to the stage Corpo-escuta / A body as listening, a new solo for piano and electronics, and the latest fragment of a much wider project.
