They came together in 1972, when the Portuguese colonial forces were still occupying the country. Using guitars with effects, something rare in S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9an music at the time, they created a unique sound to which they added the local <em>pu\u00edta<\/em>, <em>soukous<\/em> and <em>rumba<\/em>.
