A new trio is emerging on the Portuguese jazz scene. Gon\u00e7alo Cravinho Lopes on double bass, Lucas Oliveira on saxophone, and Jo\u00e3o Rocha on drums make up C.O.R. Following a commission from gnration to Cravinho Lopes, this young ensemble will make its debut at Julho \u00e9 de Jazz with the launch of their first album.<\/p>\n
Oxor, the title of this work, brings together the distinct musical vocabularies of each member in a collection of original compositions. Each musician was tasked with composing two tracks. Ultimately, following a period of reflection, Cravinho, Oliveira and Rocha added an extra track, an idea the three developed in unison. Inspired by the acronym that gives them their name, C.O.R. takes us on a journey where sound translates into colour. Here, colours are viewed from new perspectives\u2014distorted, mirrored, or simply observed through a less conventional lens than usual. Image and sound differ immensely, but it is in this divergence that they intertwine to conjure a vibrant collective energy.<\/p>\n
Born in Braga, Gon\u00e7alo Cravinho Lopes has been making a name for himself in recent years. A double bassist, bassist and composer, he is one of the founders of OCENPSIEA and Fourward, and is a member of the band XauXauDod\u00f4. He is also the musical director of the JAM Jazz Orchestra, a jazz orchestra based in Braga. Born in Ovar, Lucas Oliveira is studying for a degree in jazz saxophone at ESMAE. He collaborates with the Espinho Jazz Orchestra and is also a member of the groups Jo\u00e3o Rocha 4tet, Onoma terminar and Pedra quartet. A drummer born in Povoa\u00e7\u00e3o, Azores, Jo\u00e3o Rocha holds a degree in jazz drums from ESMAE. He has already collaborated with musicians such as Carlos Bica, Gileno Santana and Jos\u00e9 Pedro Coelho.<\/p>\n
