Ex-Easter Island Head are here to prove that there is always more life to be born from six strings. Coming directly from the avant-garde of Liverpool, a city with a historically vibrant music scene, they were described by The Guardian as \u201cone of the boldest experiments in British music\u201d. Laid horizontally, their guitars (and bass) are physically modified, rather than loaded with distortion and effects. The band prepares the instruments, inserts rods and mechanisms, and uses extended techniques with drumsticks, bamboo, Allen keys and even mobile phone vibrations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Frequently compared to pioneers such as Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, Steve Reich and John Cage, Ex-Easter Island Head emerged with the <em>Mallet Guitars<\/em> trilogy (2010, 2012 and 2013), a suggestive title for the practice that has accompanied them ever since. <em>Large Electric Ensemble<\/em> (2014) and <em>Twenty-Two Strings<\/em> (2016) followed. Recently, they returned to releases with the brilliant and widely acclaimed <em>Norther<\/em> (2024), this time adopting the meteorological term for the strong, cold winds from the north. This sixth work was named album of the year by The Quietus and highlighted in virtually every major publication, including The Wire, Pitchfork, Loud and Quiet, The Guardian, Far Out Magazine, New York Times and Uncut Magazine. Over the years, the band has performed at leading festivals such as Le Guess Who?, ATP and Supersonic.
