SYNSPECIES is a collaborative audiovisual project developed by the Spanish designer and musician Elías Merino and the Slovenian media artist Tadej Droljc. In this masterclass, the two artists take the audience behind the scenes of their work and present the ideas behind the audiovisual imagery of SYNSPECIES.
The work is inspired by virtual ecologies and unstable morphological spaces that emerge from a devastating interaction of co-existing unrelated entities with the void. It is out of these dichotomies, dialogues and conflicts that the duo have built the unique audiovisual language that is the driving force behind SYNSPECIES.
They will also present ASBU (see page XX), a journey through time and space. In this work, the artist duo explore concepts such as speculative fiction, the weird, superstitions; a particular view of cyberspace; dream visions, myths and folktales; as well as the sublime yet harsh realities of nature’s workings.
