#36 – funcionário & afonso laranjeira

Created in the 1960s, the dreamachine is a stroboscopic device designed to be viewed with closed eyes and to induce altered states of consciousness through pulsating light. In órbita, Afonso Laranjeira and funcionário create a hypnotic and sensory piece that blends video recordings of this object with meditative and contemplative music.
Afonso Laranjeira is interested in what is hidden and in the structures that delimit and help to construct objects. Between animation, photography, sculpture and drawing, the artist uses artificial intelligence, photomontage and computer programs to develop his practice. funcionário is Pedro Tavares’ solo project, focused on the expression of everyday life. In his work, sound acts as a bridge between memory and imagination.
