A new cycle begins for semivitae. Two years after their debut with Vultos Dançantes (2023), José Rios and Diogo Costa have a new work in hand. Canções de Danação (2025) sees the duo expanding on the gothic, melancholic and danceable post-punk of their first album, to which they add the dreamlike sounds of shoegaze and dream pop. In between, there is room for collaborations with other musicians from Braga, from Tricla’s anti-rap to Diogo Castanheira’s disenchanted poetry and Fernando Nunca’s voice.
Semivitae began in 2022, initially as José Rios’ solo project. Diogo Costa joined shortly afterwards, when they started talking about making music together again. Formerly bandmates in the stoner band Peluche, they sat down with a few songs already in mind that gave rise to their debut album. They performed live for the first time at CDP Funraising, a festival promoted by the Braga collective Cantigas do Poço, and since then they have toured the country from north to south, with stops in Galicia and France. In collaboration with designer I.S.Z.A, they created the soundtrack for two fashion shows for Lisbon Fashion Week. Now, José and Diogo are preparing to present semivitae’s second album, created with the support of gnration’s Trabalho da Casa.

For a decade, Trabalho da Casa has been a stage for local artists and a driving force in Braga’s music production. With more than two dozen projects supported, gnration’s artistic creation programme challenges musicians to build new albums and shows, starting from incubation in an artistic residency context to a public presentation at the end. Gonçalo, Ermo, con+ainer, Máquina Del Amor, Grandfather’s House, Leviatã, Dead Men Talking, Imploding Stars, Bruma, Ângela Polícia, Quadra, FERE, The Nancy Resistance Wide Band, Omie Wise, Homem em Catarse, Cavalheiro, Travo, St. James Park, mutu, NO! ON, Palas, Ruído Roído, aMijas and Monstro make up the range of a decade of Casa’s Work(s).

gnration’s programmes to support local artistic creation are supported by the Super Bock Group.
