Starting from the traditional songbook of Beira Baixa, Bandua reinvents and reinterprets the folk tradition of the region through electronic music. With ancestral roots in the Portuguese province, Portuguese-Brazilian musician and producer Tempura the Purple Boy (Bernardo Addario) had the idea of bringing these sounds to 21st-century pop. To do this he enlisted the help of Portuguese musician Edgar Valente, a well-known member of the band Criatura.
The idea behind this duo dates back to 2018. Bernardo was looking for downtempo music in Portuguese and with traditional roots but came across an absence of work in this register. So he created Bandua to be a kind of precursor of a path that brings together electronica and “Berlin downtempo” with Portuguese folklore. In 2022, they released the album of the same name, which combines these sounds, poems and songs in a melancholic and electronic Portuguese-language work that was highlighted as one of the best national works of the year.

After a month of celebration, gnration’s ten years culminate on 29 April with gnration open day. The already usual celebration counts with various free activities composed of concerts and exhibitions of international and national artists. See the entire programme at gnration open day.
