Tim Hecker’s second and long-awaited visit to gnration, after his debut in 2016 with Love Streams (4AD). The Canadian composer, producer, and sound artist returns to Braga on his first tour to present the new album No Highs (Kranky), which will be released two weeks before visiting Portugal. Among the little we know about the record, besides the lead single “Lotus Light”, is the participation of American-Canadian saxophonist and composer Colin Stetson.
With a career spanning more than two decades, Tim Hecker is an inescapable name in electronic music today. Winner of a Juno Award, Hecker has spent the last decade inhabiting a unique intersection between noise, dissonance, and melody. In his works, we can observe a strong intertwining of digital and organic sources. The result is a hybrid aesthetic reminiscent of abstract electronica and psychedelic minimalism. With extensive stage experience, in which he reveals himself as a contemporary master of volume and texture, he has presented his work in the most prestigious venues, from the Institute of Contemporary Art (London) to the Fondation Cartier (Paris), as well as festivals such as Primavera Sound (Barcelona) or Unsound Festival (Krakow), among many others.
In addition to his solo composition work, Hecker has worked with musicians such as Oren Ambarchi, David Bryant (Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), and Aidan Baker. Hecker’s oeuvre also includes commissions for contemporary dance, various loose compositions, and soundtracks, such as his most recent composition for Infinity Pool, Brandon Cronenberg’s new thriller, released in January this year.
