Marie Krüttli makes her debut in Portugal at the tenth edition of July is Jazz. Based in Berlin, Marie Krüttli is a rising young star on the European jazz scene. With a fresh and delicate sound, the pianist, composer and producer finds the perfect balance between contemporary music and the heart of jazz groove.
Born in a village in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, Krüttli came from a family of musicians. Her classical training began at the age of 6 with the piano, and only later came jazz. In recent years she has gained a great reputation both for her solo work and with the trio she leads. Without minimalism or irony, Marie Krüttli’s trio plays with clear ideas, precise rhythms and charming virtuosity. At the piano, the composer leads the group through an enigmatic and soulful musical landscape. One of the figures at the last edition of 12 Points, a festival that showcases new jazz artists and creatives from all over the European continent, Krüttli has already collaborated with big names such as saxophonist Tim Berne, drummer Gerry Hemingway and guitarist Chris Guilfoyle.
At the end of 2023, Marie Krüttli’s trio reconvened in the studio to record their third full-length. Accompanied by Swiss bassist Lukas Traxel and French drummer Gautier Garrigue, the pianist will preview this new work in a national premiere. Due to be released in October on the prestigious INTAKT label, this will be a unique opportunity to hear first-hand the new compositions that Marie Krüttli has plucked from the piano keys.
Julho é de Jazz takes place at Theatro Circo and gnration, and 50 general passes are available, giving access to all seven shows and the two documentaries.
