Once known as O Cão da Morte, Luís Severo has long since swapped the “dirty sound” of his adolescence for love songs. At almost 30 years old, he is already one of the most renowned Portuguese singer-songwrithers and one of the central figures of national music, which sprang up during the second half of the 2010s.
Cedo ou Tarde, scheduled for release at the end of the year, is the next album by the musician who made his debut under his own name with Cara d’Anjo (2015). At the time he sang “Ainda é Cedo”, “Vida de Escorpião”, about “Nita” and “Lábios de Vinho”, and was quickly noticed by critics and the public. From Odivelas he went to Lisbon, joined Cuca Monga, label created by Portuguese band Capitão Fausto and, with Sony Music, released the second, and much acclaimed, album. From Alvalade to Penha de França, “from the first kiss to the cold of Santa Apolónia”, in the homonymous Luís Severo (2017) he left his youth. “I was a boy, I’m already a man”, he told us, between nervous kisses, foxy ways, and “Olho de Lince“. Without warning and with the blossoming of spring 2019, he launched O Sol Voltou. Created in total solitude, Luís took over all the instruments on the album that would be presented the same year in a sold-out concert at gnration. Between these new works. there was also room for two live albums, one on piano, Pianinho (2017), and another on guitar, Guitarrinha (2019).
Since then, Luís Severo moved away from releases but never from music. He ventured into production, with the disc Vida Plena (2022) by Catarina Branco, and when João Sarnadas, whom we know as Coelho Radioativo, returned to the records, who else than Luís Severo, former companion in Flamingos, to sign the delicious single “Anda Vai Prá Cama”.
But now, “Cedo ou Tarde”, the wait is over. There’s a new Luís Severo album on the horizon.
