New technologies and cultural developments are often synonymous with erasure; forgetting why or how we used to do things, and what words or communities meant. By addressing moments, practices and works that have disappeared from memory (or been completely forgotten) in the last three decades, the alt.history conversation series presents experts in culture and aesthetics, in a reflection that seeks to resurface and re-examine the lost narratives of digital culture. This series is curated by Holo (holo.mg), a Canadian editorial and curatorial platform created in 2012 that focuses on emerging trajectories in art, science and technology.

Wade Wallerstein is an anthropologist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. His research centres on communication in virtual spaces and the relationship between digital visual culture and contemporary art. Wallerstein is currently an associate curator at Gray Area, founder and director of Silicon Valet, a virtual car park for Expanded Internet Art – a term that encompasses a multidisciplinary approach to online artistic practice – and co-director of TRANSFER Gallery, an exhibition space dedicated to simulation and other forms of computational art. He also acts as Community Manager at Outland Art, a Web3 art platform. His curatorial work has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Dazed, Artforum, AQNB and Canadian Art.
