the forest as ancestral technology: an encounter with indigenous literature
The term technology is often associated with electronic devices and machines. These associations are linked to the modern notion of development, which does not regard traditional practices as manifestations of technology. Observing the circularity of time in indigenous thought, this talk examines the unique relationship of coexistence between technology, art and life, a web of accumulated knowledge disseminating a worldview that combines crafts and technologies developed by and in the forest, based on the readings of indigenous literature and dialogues with it.

Ellen Lima Wassu is a writer and a PhD candidate in Comparative Modernities at the Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho. Her practice encompasses art, poetry, performance, activism, criticism, counter-colonial studies and essays. She has published ixé ygara voltando pra ‘y’kûá (Urutau, 2021) and yby kûatiara um livro de terra (Urutau, 2023). A contributor to literary magazines and collections and a part of Volta pra tua terra, an anthology of anti-fascist and anti-racist poets in Portugal.
