órbita #33 – joana da conceição
With a mindset and practice anchored in painting and music, Joana da Conceição is known for creating contemplative and multi-sensory environments. Active in the field of electronic composition, she has been performing solo and in collaborations since 2005, when she formed Tropa Macaca with André Abel. She also co-founded the female multimedia collective Toda Matéria.
At Órbita, Joana da Conceição premieres Magnética, a sound piece created to be listened to in a loop, which evokes the relationship between the spectators and the dismembered sculpture of the Venus de Milo. In his words, “Magnetic are the murmurs that have gravitated around the Venus de Milo since it was torn from the Earth, that just as matter traveling through space accumulates and becomes part of a star, in a movement of accretion, so the murmurs become an integral part of this sculpted block of stone”. This sound piece builds bridges with the Ana Vieira: Cadernos de montagem exhibition, inviting us to listen to it while we discover the work of the renowned Portuguese visual artist.
