artistic residency
EMAP – European Media Art Platform returns in 2026 with a new artist residency program. Formed by institutions from fifteen European countries, EMAP is one of the most important networks supporting the creation and dissemination of media arts, digital art, robotic art, and bioart in Europe.
Until March 13, artists or collectives who are citizens or taxpayers in a European Union Member State, or from a list of eligible countries outside the EU, can apply. Emerging artists, regardless of age or academic background, are encouraged to apply. More information here.
Selected artists will receive a grant of €4,000, a production budget of the same amount, have their travel expenses covered, and will also be invited to a conference-meeting to be held on May 8 and 9 in Braga. Applicants must propose an artistic project to be carried out through a two-month residency, between April and December 2026, at one of the fifteen member institutions of the EMAP network. Accommodation is provided by the host institution, which will accompany and assist the artists with technical issues and provide them with a place to work.
Since 2022, gnration has been the only Portuguese institution to join the EMAP network. As part of this project, we have hosted residencies by Luiz Zanotello, with the multimedia installation Tempo e Tempo (2024), Davor Sanvincenti, with the exhibition Natureza não faz barulho (Nature Makes No Noise) (2023), based on images of wildlife in Gerês, and Marc Vilanova with the audiovisual installation Cascade (2023), which has been presented around the world.
