Sound creation can arise from the encounter between different forms of artistic expression. With this idea in mind, HEDERA 4TET conceived a project in which it invites renowned national artists from disciplines such as music, literature, visual arts, and dance to compose works to be performed by the ensemble. The goal is to investigate how sound can be understood visually, how text can be transformed into music, and how physical movement translates into sound interpretation.
Established in 2022, HEDERA 4TET is a violin quartet composed of Carlos Zíngaro, Bernardo Aguiar, David Magalhães Alves, and Francisco Lima da Silva. Adopting the notion that music expresses much more than the sounds themselves, the collective has developed performative approaches in which it addresses composition as a space for dialogue between disciplines and artists. Throughout its career, the quartet has crossed paths with names such as Pedro Carneiro, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Pedro Calapez, Vera Mantero, and António Jorge Gonçalves.
For this concert, HERDERA 4TET joins forces with Nuno Rebelo, an inescapable figure in Portuguese music. His work spans disciplines such as theater, dance, and cinema, and genres ranging from rock and pop to contemporary music and free improvisation. Author of the project As guitarras portuguesas mutantes!!! (The Mutant Portuguese Guitars!!!) and founding member of Mler Ife Dada, Rebelo has performed alongside names such as Agustí Fernández, Albert Cirera, Bart Maris, Damo Suzuki, Hilmar Jensson, Jean-Marc Montera, Paolo Angeli, and Peter Kowald, and participated in the presentation of John Zorn’s Cobra.
