As the end of the academic year approaches, it has become a tradition for gnration to host a concert featuring young performers from the University of Minho’s Bachelor’s Degree in Music. This year, the blackbox once again opens its doors to these emerging talents and aspiring musicians, giving them the chance to showcase to the city the exemplary work they have been developing in the halls of the Convento dos Congregados. Under the guidance of Professor Pedro Junqueira Maia, this end-of-semester performance showcases the progress and learning acquired in the Contemporary Music module. During this period, the young instrumentalists engage with the contemporary music repertoire, approaching new aesthetic and technical languages in an informed manner. This concert explores the world of music as thought, invention and research, celebrating creativity through the exploration of new forms of artistic expression.

Through direct contact with leading figures in contemporary musical composition, both national and international, the students embark on new and diverse creative possibilities and are encouraged to seek their own creative identity. Far from being a mere demonstration of musical skills and individuality, this performance is, above all, a tribute to musical creation that questions scores and works in line with the sonic specificities of contemporary music.
