Veterans of Austin’s rich experimental scene, the members of Water Damage are well aware of the transcendent power of drone music, a force capable of transporting the listener’s mind to other dimensions. With roots in projects such as Spray Paint, Black Eyes, Swans, USA/Mexico, more eaze, and Thor & Friends, these musicians have decades of experience and, together, dive deeper than ever into the hypnotic heart of drone music.

Guided by the principle of “Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation,” Water Damage has earned a reputation for transforming seemingly simple patterns into vast and immersive soundscapes. Their music is a flow, a mixture of harmonic tones and textures that expands until it is beyond the reach of the ear. With a less direct approach than many of their peers, the band prefers to let each of their sound ideas occupy an entire reel of tape. When they start recording, they don’t look back; they move toward an imaginary end that is only visible when the tape runs out.

Live, this supergroup functions as a mutable collective that brings together between five and eleven members on stage, with several drums, basses, and guitars sounding simultaneously. A Water Damage concert challenges us to surrender control, forget time, and simply enter the drone’s current. For those who accept the challenge, the band opens a portal to the farthest frontiers of sound and repetition.
