In the poem The Waste Land, T.S. Eliot paints a fragmented portrait of a society in ruins, marked by grief and apathy. Drawing on the themes of this work, a cornerstone of modernism, comes the fourth and latest album by Travo. Released internationally by Fuzz Records, WASTELAND stands as their most intense and ambitious work to date, seeking out new influences in fusion jazz and 1970s krautrock.

Over the past few years, the band formed by David Ferreira (bass), Gonçalo Carneiro (guitar, synthesisers), Gonçalo Ferreira (vocals, guitar, synthesisers) and Nuno Gonçalves (drums) has cemented itself as an institution in Portuguese psych-rock. Looking back to 2022, Travo released Sinking Creation, their second album, recorded with the support of Trabalho da Casa and presented on this very stage. That release propelled them to the forefront of national and international stages, guided by the raw sound they have used as a weapon ever since. Between tours, they released another album, Astromorph God (2023), which took them to new global horizons, including a session at KEXP, Seattle’s historic radio station.

Announced with the track BURIAL, WASTELAND continues the upward trajectory of the Braga band. Reflecting on how despair today is marked by a lack of direction, the band questions whether the idea of redemption proposed by Eliot is even possible, and how we might fight apathy in a world so centred on individualism and distraction. Set for release on 2 October, Travo return to gnration in full force for the first presentation concert of this new WASTELAND.
