music
Drawing inspiration from the visual universe of Paula Rego, Ana Teresa Pereira presents five pieces for piano and violin. Through music, the young composer and pianist seeks to channel and reinterpret the narrative and emotional intensity found in the paintings of one of the most significant figures in Portuguese contemporary art. Taking the piano herself, and accompanied by Francisca Ribeiro on violin, Ana Teresa Pereira explores central themes in Paula Rego’s work, such as the female condition, power, vulnerability, memory and resistance.
Born in Braga in 2003, the young composer and pianist began her studies at the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian. In 2021, she started a bachelor’s degree in Piano and Composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she is currently studying Composition. Her artistic practice focuses primarily on the creation of instrumental and vocal music, with a musical language that ranges from complex rhythmic structures to immersive sound atmospheres, investigating how these influence the audience’s emotional state. She has presented her work at venues and institutions such as Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, Dutch National Opera and Ballet, Orgelpark and Stadsgehoorzaal.
